When you’re implementing an Email Marketing Campaign or Internet Marketing Promotion, considering which medium (smartphone, tablet, pc) users may read the email is very important to ensuring the best email marketing success.
According to a recent study, 20.63% of emails were opened on smartphones, with 6.76% on tablets, mainly the iPad (6.54% of emails were opened on this device). The iPhone and iPad together represented over 22% of all email opens in Q3 and Q4 2011.
Mobile Friendly Email Marketing Tip No. 1
Use larger fonts compared to those used in traditional emails. A safe size is 14pt within the body, and 22pt for any headlines. While using much larger fonts can be very tempting, doing so may risk the email to seem very wordy; resulting in a quick delete.
Mobile Friendly Email Marketing Tip No. 2
Make your images mobile compatible to ensure a full effect. Although, by default, mobile devices have images turned off, readers will tend to quickly “junk” and email when there is a very large white space. Also, ensure that your email is no more than 300pixel in size, including images.
Mobile Friendly Email Marketing Tip No. 3
Keep the design simple and clean. Having complex headers, navigation bars, social media links etc., may cause your email to be very confusing. On the other hand, “Call to Action” links/buttons should take precedence over any other links.
Mobile Friendly Email Marketing Tip No. 4
Subject lines must be limited to only 40 characters (5 or 6 words). This will ensure that the subject is “to the point” and is displayed in its entirety. When it comes to creating defined subject lines, unless you want your emails to blocked, never use question marks or exclamation points.
Mobile Friendly Email Marketing Tip No. 5
Use a single column template to accommodate small screens and increase readability. Because mobile users don’t mind scrolling down when reading an email, a single column format is the perfect choice. Not only will the single column render better, compared to other formats, it will also ensure increased responsiveness.
